Safeway Driver Dot.com Tentative Agreement Reached

On Monday, November 30th, drivers for Safeway.com along with UFCW 5 local staff approved a tentative agreement with Safeway for the 250 workers who drive for Safeway.com in Northern California. This contract will be first of its kind for UFCW members in Albertsons’ companies nationwide. Since the pandemic e-commerce has exploded and drivers at Safeway.com have large improvements for drivers including some of the highest wages for delivery drivers in e-commerce along with improvements in healthcare coverage, health and safety protections, guarantee minimum of hours and a process for ensuring that Safeway minimizes the use of third-party applications like DoorDash and Instacart.

In the next couple of weeks members who drive for Safeway will have a chance to review the contract and vote on it. This is only the beginning for workers in the e-commerce sector as UFCW 5 looks to organize across the e-commerce supply chain.
