The informational meetings explaining the recent contract offer by Safeway have concluded. The secret mail ballots with the offer, and the recommendation by your Safeway Bargaining Committee to authorize UFCW 5 to call a strike, if necessary, are being sent out November 20, 2019. The ballots will be counted on December 13, 2019 at 4:00 pm at the UFCW 5 office in Hayward. It is hoped that representatives of Safeway will come back to the bargaining and improve their offer so a strike can be avoided.

Our Safeway member’s voices are being heard loud and clear by store management. Our Safeway members are demanding a better wage offer and other contract improvements.  The message has worked its way up to top executives of Safeway and Albertson’s and they are listening. Keep strong and united and continue demanding a fair and equitable agreement for the hard work you perform to make Safeway a successful company.
