June 24, 2025, SAFEWAY BARGAINING UPDATE
Dear Union Member,
Negotiations for a new Safeway agreement appear to be headed toward a labor dispute in Northern California as the Company is not bargaining in good faith and committing numerous Unfair Labor Practices (ULP). That along with UFCW Local 7 currently on a ULP strike against Safeway/Albertsons at various locations in Colorado and the Southern California UFCW unions having authorized a ULP strike, many of you have asked questions about striking and the process.
As such, attached are frequently asked questions about striking. We hope these are helpful in clearing up any questions or concerns you may have, but if you have more questions, please contact your Union Representative: https://ufcw5.org/find-rep/.
UFCW 5 will vote using Election Buddy: a secure online voting system. We have used this secure online voting system with multiple contracts (Lucky, Food Maxx, CVS and more), but to be prepared to participate in the vote, please make sure Local 5 has your current email or mobile number by contacting a union office https://ufcw5.org/union-offices/.
We have filed multiple ULPs against Safeway and are bargaining today June 24th and tomorrow June 25th. Following those sessions an update will be sent out to the membership. Now is the time to remind the company of what they said during the pandemic—that we are essential! Let’s stay united for the contract you deserve.

Las negociaciones para un nuevo acuerdo con Safeway parecen dirigirse hacia una disputa laboral en el norte de California, ya que la Compañía no está negociando de buena fe y cometiendo numerosas Prácticas Laborales Injustas (ULP).
