October 4, 2024 Food Maxx Bargaining Update
Your UFCW Local 5 bargaining committee consisting of rank and file workers and union leadership, along with Locals 8 from the valley and 770 from southern California, met with representatives from Food Maxx on October 2nd and 3rd to discuss a new collective bargaining agreement. The Unions presented the company with a comprehensive proposal that addresses wage increases, safety, improvements to the healthcare plan, and additional funding to improve retirement savings.
The company gave the Unions an incomplete proposal even though they had ample time to prepare to come to the bargaining table with a complete proposal. What they did give the union bargaining committee included a healthcare proposal that would put the strength and security of the healthcare plan in jeopardy, unjustified cuts to job protection provisions in the meat departments, and insulting wage increases. The company clearly needs to up their game if they want to reach an agreement that acknowledges the hard work and sacrifice of our Food Maxx members.
We are in the process of scheduling additional bargaining dates and will continue to keep you informed. Union representatives have been circulating petitions to members that reinforce our demands for a new agreement, so if you have not signed it yet, then contact your rep or shop steward. Está claro que la empresa necesita mejorar su juego si quiere llegar a un acuerdo que reconozca el arduo trabajo y el sacrificio de nuestros miembros de Food Maxx.
