Your UFCW Local 5 bargaining committee, along with UFCW Locals 8 G.S. and 648, met with company representatives to negotiate a new contract. The unions have requested information from the company relevant to our proposals. The company has responded to some of the requested information, but we are awaiting a further response. The information we have requested is extremely important to the proposals we are making based on the survey results from the Lucky’s membership. We have started by presenting the company with non-economic proposals and will be giving them the economic proposals important to our members shortly.

This Monday Lucky’s presented us with their opening proposals. It is very early in talks, but the proposals made by the company would absolutely gut many of the job protections in our current agreement. We know these proposals would not be acceptable to our Lucky’s members. Lucky’s needs to recognize the hard work, hazards, and increased cost of living faced by our Local 5 members.

We return to bargaining next week and will keep you informed on the status of talks as we proceed.
