Workers at Eight Good Vibrations Locations Win their Union Election
San Francisco, CA– Today, UFCW Local 5, which represents essential workers in grocery, retail, cannabis and other industries across California, released a statement following the union election victory for workers at all eight of adult retailer Good Vibrations’ locations in the San Francisco Bay area won their union election.
The workers were originally motivated to organize after the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated on-the-job safety issues. The fight has since expanded to center better wages, job security, and improved health and safety practices in all areas of the workplace.
In 2016, workers at Babeland, owned by Barnaby Inc. (Good Vibrations’ parent company), organized with the RWDSU in New York and secured a historic contract that provided health benefits, wage increases, and added safety and security protocols to protect Babeland’s predominately LGBTQ and gender minority workforce.
The following statements were released by workers who organize the election victory
“We are passionate about the work we are doing and we deserve a sustainable living in our space that values our health and humanity” – Danny Ramirez
“We need a union here so our staff can win for ourselves the kind of empowered pleasurable lives that we encourage for our customers” ~ Sam Pollack
