UFCW Local 5, Nob Hill Foods Reach

 Tentative Contract Agreement

More than 1200 UFCW Local 5 members working at sixteen Nob Hill Food stores in the Bay Area will soon be voting on a new four-year contract.

The tentative deal, reached on December 7 after months of bargaining, includes a 20 percent wage increase over the life of the agreement for most workers, a ratification bonus, health and retirement benefit improvements, and additional contract changes proposed by the union.

The new contract, pending ratification by the union’s members, will run retroactively from last October through October 2027.

Bargaining was long and difficult, says Local 5 President John Frahm, but a hard-working employee negotiating committee, backed up by union members who have shown a willingness to strike for a fair contract in the past, ultimately convinced the company to agree to resolve the outstanding issues.

“Nob Hill workers are acutely aware of the historic contract gains that the UFCW has achieved for our members at other food retailers, as well as the recent bargaining victories for Teamsters, auto workers, actors and so on,” Frahm explained. “Given the economic success of Nob Hill’s parent company, Raley’s, they expected no less in this instance.”
