Macy’s Bargaining Update January 31st Tentative Agreement Reached; Voting set for February 2nd
The Macy’s bargaining committee returned to the bargaining table with Macy’s on January 30th for another round of talks. Talks went late into the evening, but the night ended with a tentative agreement for a new contract between UFCW Local 5 Union Square Macy’s members and the company.
UFCW Local 3000 from the state of Washington joined the committee in a show of solidarity. According to Lisa Luick from Macys in Alderwood WA: “The members at UFCW5 are fighting for what we all at Macy’s are fighting for: better pay, safer stores and dignity and respect on the job. When I visited the bargaining table this Monday with UFCW5 members it was clear to me that the issues are the same whether you work at a Macy’s in San Francisco or in the Puget Sound. I am proud to stand with San Francisco Macy’s worker and their fight for a better contract and I know when it comes time for us to fight, they will stand with us.”
Bargaining committee member Michelle Jones said “We have been bargaining with Macys since the end of last May for improved wages, safety and security protections, and to protect our seniority provisions. It has not been an easy road with Macy’s, but we were encouraged by the support of our union family from Local 3000 in reaching this agreement and pledge to support them in their upcoming contract fight with Macy’s.”
The details of the tentative agreement will be discussed at the contract vote on February 2nd from 9 am to 7pm at the Handlery Hotel Union Square Room. (351 Geary St., San Francisco) Please make every effort to attend and cast your vote.
