MACY’S UFCW LOCAL 5 MEMBERS VOTING ON MACY’S OFFER 12-22-22 HANDLERY HOTEL CONFERENCE ROOM
Your Macy’s Union Bargaining Committee is resuming negotiations with representatives of Macy’s management tomorrow, December 21, 2022.
It is the Bargaining Committee’s hope that Macy’s representatives come to the bargaining table with an approved offer that is fair and equitable and seriously addresses the cost of living impacting all workers in the Bay Area. Just as important are job security issues related to layoffs and elimination of full-time jobs.
Macy’s has threatened layoffs without regard to seniority if a sufficient number of employees do not accept a proposed severance package. Elimination of full-time positions are also on the chopping block for both Sales and Support staff.
The Bargaining Committee expects an approved offer from Macy’s representatives based on a discussion they had with a representative of the UFCW International Union, which later was conveyed to the BargainingCommittee.
Based on the expectation of an improved offer the Bargaining Committee decided to schedule a vote on such offer for December 22, 2022, the very next day. It is necessary to put an end to the stalling charade Macy’s representatives continue to engage in.
If an acceptable offer is not forthcoming, and the Macy’s membership votes to reject the offer by a two-thirds majority, a strike will be called for midnight of December 22nd and will continue through the close of Macy’s business on Saturday December 24th. The strike will be an Unfair Labor Practice strike which would prohibit Macy’s to lock-out workers beyond December 24th.
The Local 5 Executive Board has approved a strike benefit for $150 for each day of the strike provided that striking members picket for no less than 6 hours on each of the two days.
