MACY’S MEMBERS AUTHORIZE STRIKE, COMMITTEE RETURNS TO BARGAINING TABLE
On Tuesday December 13th UFCW Local 5 Macy’s members overwhelmingly voted to reject Macy’s sub-standard contract offer and authorized the Union Bargaining Committee to take economic action, up to and including a strike, against Macy’s. The bargaining committee will return to the negotiations table with Macy’s negotiators on December 21st with the intent of securing an agreement from Macy’s, but have tentatively scheduled a work stoppage for midnight December 23rd through midnight December 24th if an agreement is not reached.
Local 5 has also filed an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charge against Macy’s for directly dealing with the union membership in an attempt to bypass the union bargaining committee prior to the membership vote on the 13th. Macy’s workers should expect an onslaught of misinformation over the coming days as Macy’s will attempt to re-direct attention away from the issues that matter to the workforce. Don’t fall prey to Macy’s misinformation and continue to stand united for a contract that honor’s the hard work and sacrifice retail workers have endured over the nearly 3 years since the beginning of the pandemic. El martes 13 de Diciembre, los miembros de Macy’s del UFCW Local 5 votaron abrumadoramente para rechazar la oferta de contrato deficiente de Macy’s y autorizaron al Comité de Negociación de la Unión a tomar medidas económicas, incluyendo una huelga contra Macy’s.
El comité de negociación volverá a la mesa de negociaciones con los negociadores de Macy’s el 21 de Diciembre con la intención de asegurar un acuerdo con Macy’s, pero hemos programado tentativamente un paro laboral para la medianoche del 23 de Diciembre hasta la medianoche del 24 de Diciembre si no se llega a un acuerdo. El Local 5 también presentó un cargo por prácticas laborales injustas (ULP, por sus siglas en inglés) contra Macy’s por tratar directamente con los miembros de la Unión en un intento de eludir el comité de negociación de la Unión antes de la votación de los miembros programadla el día 13 de Diciembre.
Los trabajadores de Macy’s deben esperar una avalancha de información errónea durante el próximo días por parte de Macy’s en la que intentará desviar la atención de los problemas que son importantes para la fuerza laboral. No se deje engañar por la desinformación de Macy’s y continúen unidos por un contrato que honrre el arduo trabajo y el sacrificio que los trabajadores minoristas han soportado durante los casi tres años desde el comienzo de la pandemia.
