Macy’s Claims Financial Hardship, Union Demands Proof
Negotiations between Macy’s and Local 5 came to a halt earlier this month with no progress as company negotiators responded to bargaining committee proposals with a claim of financial hardship at the Union Square store.
The company’s claim triggered a legal obligation that it provide financial records and other documents to the union upon request. Macy’s has agreed with Local 5’s demand for a thorough review of the store’s financial data by a union-authorized certified public accountant.
The review will take place during the first week of November. Results of the process will be reported to Macy’s members after a review by the union bargaining team and prior to the resumption of bargaining.
