Macy’s Bargaining Update #6
The bargaining committee again met with Macy’s representatives on September 20th. Macy’s made an insulting proposal that clearly disregards the financial strain of inflation and housing costs, the emotional toll Macy’s members have endured while working during a pandemic, and an increase in workplace violence. The Company made a mere 5 cent an hour increase to their wage proposal, and now are offering a whopping 30 cents an hour for 2022, another 30 cents an hour for 2023, and a whole quarter (25 cents an hour) for 2024. Additionally, Macy’s continues to propose the annihilation of the seniority provisions surrounding layoff and recall, refuse to agree to reasonable safety and security provisions, and reject any attempt to lower the costs of healthcare. Adding insult to injury, they refused to meet in person, preferring the comfort of home over having to face the bargaining committee in person when they make their unrealistic proposals.
