California rightly provided essential workers with up to 10 days of COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave earlier this year after hearing from your union about how critical it was to be able to take time off to recover from illness or take care of a family member who is sick. Now, as we face yet another surge of illness, it’s imperative that the state extend this life-saving law until the end of the year.

Call your legislators to let them know that UFCW members continue to face the threat of illness with no protections and California MUST EXTEND COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave. Workers should not have to choose between going to work sick and putting food on the table.

We know California workers with low wages – disproportionately women and people of color – are far less likely to have adequate benefit packages and may be forced to take time off from work without pay or even risk losing their job if they or someone they love has COVID-19 or any illness.
