Safeway and Union to Meet Thursday February 27th

After a three day break the UFCW 5 Safeway Bargaining Committee agreed to meet February 27th in an effort to continue working towards a tentative agreement. Although the parties have come a long way in attempting to reach agreement, bargaining has been slowed as the parties work on a sensible method to address wages in relation to the 28 municipalities in UFCW 5’s area that have minimum wages higher than the State of California’s current $13 an hour.

Again, UFCW 5’s members and other fellow Unionists from the labor community have again risen to the occasion during our Oakland rally continuing to send a convincing message to the company that a good wage and the opportunity for full-time employment is necessary to achieve a decent living standard in the extremely expensive Northern California coastal region.
