Nob Hill Members Approve New Three-year Contract

Local 5 members working at Nob Hill have overwhelmingly approved a new three-year contract. The agreement received a 93% approval vote and caps a nearly twelve-month bargaining process with Raley’s, the parent company of Nob Hill.

Terms of the settlement, which runs through October 11, 2020, include across-the-board wage increases totaling $1.65 an hour over three years in addition to a $500 ratification bonus for top scale employees. Workers in progression steps will immediately move to the next highest step on the wage scale resulting in immediate increases of up to $1.25 an hour. Health and pension benefits were protected and future changes will be tied to those agreed to by the balance of the retail food industry in negotiations set for later this year.

Other highlights include an increase in the full-time to part-time ratio from 30% to 35% in 2020 and improvements in vacation and night premium entitlements. In contrast to many previous agreements with the company there were relatively few modifications to contract language and no significant union concessions.

“The bargaining process is never easy but a number of factors made the Nob Hill talks especially difficult,” said Local 5 president John Nunes. “The determination and solidarity of our members and in particular, the ongoing involvement and hard work of our bargaining committee is what ultimately led to our success.”
