Tentative Agreement Arrived at After Long Haul

Local 5 is happy to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached between the union and See’s Candies. After a prolonged period of negotiations, including a stretch where the mediator was sidelined by the government shutdown, talks have concluded and tentative agreement has been negotiated.

The Proposed Agreement

Details of the pact will be disclosed to the membership via a complete information pack including a vote by mail ballot which will arrive in mailboxes soon. The union is recommending approval. The major sticking points separating the union and the company were qualifying hours for medical benefits and wages. The question of medical benefits has been resolved in the tentative agreement by insuring that minimum hours worked will result in qualifying for benefits. On the topic of wages a significant increase in the first two years of the deal followed by wage reopeners in the third and fourth years of the agreement was negotiated. Packets were sent to all members on October 25. Ballots are due back by November 8.
