UFCW Local 5 Safeway Negotiations Update

April 11, 2015

Local 5 and Safeway stores are set to return to the bargaining table on April 15 and 17. This set of negotiations appears to not involve the complex issues as have been indicative of past talks, which resulted from health and welfare design changes and pension restructuring.

The economy is recovering throughout the region and this along with the recently completed merger with Cerberus is an incentive to complete this set of negotiations and get on with business.

The Machinists Union approved a contract at the distribution center in Tracy recently that provided for wage increases and resolved some contracting out of work issues. The

Teamster drivers and warehousemen at the Tracy facility have not signed off on an agreement. The common interest between Local 5 members and the Teamsters is another incentive to complete this round of talks in a positive manner.

The membership will be kept up to date on developments. Continue to consult your union
representative, the website and Facebook for the latest information.
