Retail Clerk Mosaics Saved from Vallejo Building

Intricate mosaics that were displayed on the now closed Local 5 Vallejo office have been saved. The artwork appears to have been on the building since the 1960’s. They read “Retail Store Employees Union” and refer to the RCIA or the Retail Clerks International Association. The RCIA merged with the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen to form the UFCW in 1979.

The tiled signs are being cleaned up and will be displayed at the Hayward and Martinez offices.

Ben Espinoza from the Cement Masons and Frank Crim from the Carpenters volunteered to remove the signs and did so with professionalism and expertise. Thanks Brothers!
