EBoard Approves Financial Support to UFCW Local 7 Flood Victims

floodIn September, Colorado was hit by record amounts of rainfall generating devastating flash floods that destroyed roads and lines of communications and inundated thousands of homes, forcing people to evacuate and leaving them stranded.

It has left many of our UFCW Local 7 sisters and brothers in Colorado in immediate and significant need of assistance. Some still struggle with damage to their homes while others have lost everything.

UFCW Activists Arrested at Massive Immigration March

On October 8, UFCW activists were among those arrested outside the U.S. Capitol while protesting the failure of House Republican leaders to pass UL Featuredcomprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship.

The march, which included tens of thousands of people from across the country, followed over 180 similar actions in 40 states over the weekend.

Bargaining Roundup

See’s Candy

Local 5 is happy to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached between the union and See’s Candies. After a prolonged period of negotiations, including a stretch where the mediator was sidelined by the government shutdown, talks have concluded and tentative agreement has been negotiated.

Details of the pact will be disclosed to the membership via a complete information pack including a vote by mail ballot, which will arrive in mailboxes soon.

A Tentative agreement has been reached. Once ratification meeting dates and locations are set, members will be notified.

Negotiations are still ongoing. Both parties feel they are close to an agreement.

Rite Aid
Negotiations will be resuming on November 13th.


UFCW Local 5 and Lucky-Save Mart have signed an agreement extending all terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement, including health and welfare, wages and working conditions, through the conclusion of bargaining over a new contract. FoodMaxx has been on extension since June 30, 2011. Locals 5, 8 and 648 will be bargaining with SaveMart on November 11th for FoodMaxx and Lucky/SaveMart contracts. The membership will be advised of any developments coming out of these meetings

Negotiations are ongoing with multiple employers. For more information on bargaining visit the Bargaining Department section under Member Resources.

Macy’s Negotiations Kick-Off Meeting

Macy’s members attended meetings held on October 3rd to begin prepping the upcoming negotiations with Macy’s.
Members were excited to begin the conversation. Special guest Ken Borderi, President of RWDSU 1-S, the UFCW local that represents the Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square in NYC addressed the Macy’s members in attendance and answered questions.


UFCW 5 Actions & Events

On October 5th UFCW 5 participated in multiple events from community fairs (Emma Prusch Park Fair and A Day in the Park) and march for National Day of Action for Dignity and Respect for comprehensive immigration reform.
Members came out and participated in these market share events. Future market share events are posted under upcoming events.

Labor Foundation for Working Families Golf Tournament and Clay Shoot Raise Money for Charity, Hardship Fund and Scholarships

The annual Clay Shoot and Golf Tournament raised over $150,000 for Leukemia Lymphoma Society, scholarships for Working Families and money for the Labor Foundation for Working Families hardship fund.
