Local 5 & Foodmaxx to Meet First Week of September
Local 5 and a member bargaining committee met with representatives of Food Maxx today, Friday August 19th, to continue talks in seeking a new agreement. The talks were productive and it was determined that additional meetings would be beneficial to both parties. Dates are scheduled for the beginning of September.
Please continue to access the Local 5 website for updates. Union Representatives will continue to frequent stores to keep employees informed as negotiations continue.
Foodmax Members Authorize Strike
In meetings taking place throughout Local 5 in Northern California this week, Food Maxx members overwhelmingly approved a rejection of the company’s contract proposals and authorized Local 5 to take strike action if necessary. In one of the largest membership turnouts in terms of percentages of any employer under contract with Local 5, Food Maxx employees granted strike authorization by a significant 88% margin.
Further meetings with the company will continue on August 19th. Local 5 representatives expect to receive an improved offer based on information the company provided to employees since the announcement that Local 5 would seek strike authorization from their membership

Southern California Locals Settle
UFCW Locals in Southern California have reached a tentative agreement with Vons/Albertsons, Ralphs (Kroger) and independent stores. The unions are not releasing details of the pact until they have advised their members of the contents of the deal. Click here for additional information.
Southern California Locals Set Strike Vote
Lucky-Save Mart Announces Closure of Vacaville Distribution Center
Lucky-Save Mart announced the closure of its Vacaville distribution center (DC) recently. Operations will be consolidated at the Lathrop location.
Workers in the facility are represented by he Teamsters and Machinist Unions. Local 5 has met with both unions and pledged to support the locals and their members in any capacity requested.
