Lucky-SaveMart Negotiation Update
Efforts Toward a New Contract Continue
October 27, 2014
Local 5 has requested additional bargaining dates with Lucky/Save Mart in an effort to resolve several key issues that remain on the table. While the company has failed to respond to Local 5’s most recent request for a meeting, we continue to demand that good faith negotiations resume as soon as possible.
The company’s most recent proposal would move several of the negative economic components of the recently expired stabilization agreement into a three-year contract, something members have said they will not accept. While management has also agreed to some contract improvements and negotiation on all of the issues is still possible nothing can happen until the company bargaining team returns to the table. In the meantime, Lucky/Save Mart representatives are preparing a financial review for the union that it says will justify its request for contract concessions and its plan to close additional stores.
While the Lucky-Save Mart agreement is in negotiation contracts at Safeway and Raley’s-Nob Hill are also up. A large majority of Local 5 members are now in contract talks. It is more important than ever that Local 5 members stick together through this process. It is the only way to achieve a good contract.
There is Power in the Union: It’s You!
