Local 5 See’s Members Overwhelmingly Vote to Strike
See’s negotiations have taken a turn that would leave company founder Mary Sees shaking her head.
As a result of management’s recalcitrant attitude at the bargaining table, See’s members had no choice last week but to vote to authorize a strike. The high turnout and the lopsided percentage by which the vote passed (+93%) was a clear message from the members to the company that their antics in negotiations would no longer be tolerated.
Issues separating union members and the company are many, they include wages, benefits, pension and language issues. The bargaining committee reports that the mediator will probably take another shot at attempting to get the company to get serious. Barring a significantly sweeter offer from the company See’s members will be taking action against the employer.
Information will be released as it becomes available. In the meantime please call the company at 1-800 347-7337 and urge them to make a realistic contract offer. You may also stop by the stores on the attached list to show your support. Until a strike is called it’s OK to shop there.
